TikTok is ordered by the Federal Regulators to harden the privacy policies for Teen’s and Kids

 


This has been ordered by the federal regulators to harden the privacy policies for those whose age is under 18.

This new policies will come into the act by Wednesday, the account will be private for the users aged from 13-15. By this, it means only the user can approve who can watch their videos and view their content which was not before. But the teenagers can change the setting to the public by their own choice.

Teenagers who are older cannot see this default setting but the users aged 16 or 17 their display will show the option of video downloading as “on” and “off”.

The ability to download the videos created by creators who are 15 and below is going to be blocked by TikTok. Also, these youngsters won’t see the direct messaging options, and also the host live stream will be restricted.

This famous Chinese application called TikTok is gaining huge popularity among kids and youngsters. There will be also present a feature which offers youngsters to pre-select the “age-appropriate” videos. This important feature was added when the other predecessors settled FTC allegations that it is illegally collecting the personal information from the children. It also agreed to pay $5.7 million (about Rs. 41.7 crores).

For the sake of privacy issues, there is a tool termed as “family pairing” in which parents can link their TikTok account to their kids and teen’s so that they can enable the content and change the privacy default settings from the account.

A month ago, TikTok's parent company, along with Twitter, Facebook, Amazon, and 5 more social media companies were asked by the Federal Trade Commission to give detailed information on how they collect and use consumers' personal data and how their practices affect children and teens.

The users of TikTok while making an account are also asked about their birthday but on the other side, there is no verification as such to ensure if they are correct. So this is also a big concern.
