Software companies are making operating
systems and applications as many other hardware firms are making smartphones,
tablets, TVs, PCs & silicon. Agreeing the support for certain video coding
formats play an important role in key industry players in order to give
experience best to the user, minimizing the network use and supporting a huge
variation of devices.
For this very reason, the AV1 video codec
has been created by Open Media Alliance. This helps in transmitting the video
efficiently via the internet with the usage of minimum quality. The most amazing
part is that it is royalty-free so that companies don’t have to worry about the
licensing fees as they don’t have to pay. Unfortunately, this is something
that will take time for the users to adopt.
We also believed that it may be adopted in the year 2021. Very
frequently Google is showing promotions of AV1 video decoding will be
supporting all-new Android TV products.
On the other side, AV1 is getting
popular among users day by day for the online streaming and consumption of
media, some of the videos that are encoded in AV1 are also streaming on YouTube
on the selected Android TV devices, Vimeo did the same as it is streaming on
Staff Picks channel in AV1. Netflix is also streaming the selected titles
in AV1 while activating the data saving mode. Google is the biggest supporter
of AV1 and also revealed the plans for using AV1 for Google video applications
and services the entire range.
If they want AV1 adoption to happen on
a large scale then they need to introduce many more devices to decode AV1 to
hardware. It is also mandatory for ensuring the increment in the speed of video
playback and efficiency of power. In conclusion, Google ensures that all new
Android TV devices will be launched after March 31, 2021, which will support
video decode.
In this year all the new TV devices
that will launch will have Android 10 and Android 11 in them. According to
XDA, an internal slide was reviewed that was a part of the PowerPoint
presentation that was held by Google for its last year's Android partners.
However, any response is not given by Google yet so it is not genuine to say if
this deadline is up to date or not. When the article was published we noticed
that this news has already leaked in a newsletter on October 29, 2020, by Janko
Roettgers.
The future Android TV devices are
required to have AV1 support by Google and this was clearly seen. All the
Android TV devices such as 4K HDR and 8K will be requiring video decoding
support and will be launched with Android 10.
This was also mentioned by the industry that the 4K HDR Android TV device
that introduced recently in the market was dispatched with an AV1-compatible
SoC, likewise MediaTek T30/T31/T32 i.e. Realtek RTD 2851M. Also TLC’s X915 8K
TV is supporting AV1 decode. Realtek RTD2851M SoC along with RTD2893 will make
it the first TVs which will be supporting 8K videos on YouTube. After few time
they will expand the availability to all the products of Android TV which will
only be done by Google.
Furthermore, AV1
video decode will be powered by the entire 2021 TV lineup as it was disclosed
and confirmed by a TV brand. As per the report by FlatPanelsHD, all the TV’s launched by Sony in 2021 will be
supporting AV1 video decoding. Sony will also dispatch the left TV stock with
the Android TV and be continuing this year. Apart from that TCL was also asked if in
the year 2021, AV1 hardware decodes will exist in the Google TV series but the
appropriate answer was not given.
Samsung & LG
both have their own operating system and start installing the AV1 support to some of the TVs that are supporting royalty-free codec. Devices like
tablets, smartphones, and PCs will also be getting the support of AV1 video.
Samsung’s Exynos 2100 & MediaTek’s Density 1000 mobile chipsets, Intel’s
11th-gen processors, NVIDIA’s RTX 30 series GPUs, and AMD’s Radeon RX 6000
series GPUs will also support AV1 decoding.
As a result of this, the device will work better on their quality, the display will be improved. As
this will be convenient and beneficial for the user as this is the priority
one.
