Intel CEO Calls Apple a lifestyle Firm

Intel announced this week that current CEO Bob Swan would be stepping down, from the position on 15th February, set to be replaced by VMware CEO Pat Gelsinger. This marks a return to Intel for Gelsinger, who previously labored at the chipmaker for 30 years.

Gelsinger is already calling on Intel to step up its efforts to compete with Apple, or what he refers to as “a lifestyle firm in Cupertino’’ makes, Gelsinger reportedly told Intel employees. “We have to be that good, in the future’’.

Gelsinger’s statement is a clear reference to increasing competition from Apple, which officially started transitioning the Mac line-up to Apple Silicon processors last year. Intel faces increasing competition not only from Apple, but also from AMD and Qualcomm.

In accordance to The Verge, which estimates The Oregonian, an area newspaper, Gelsinger in the conference informed employees, “We have to provide better goods and solutions to the Computer ecosystem than any possible issue that a lifestyle firm in Cupertino”.
